Must-See Highlights at the Uffizi
Housed in a 16th-century palazzo just steps from the Duomo, the Uffizi holds one of the finest collections of Italian Renaissance painting anywhere in the world.
- Birth of Venus: Sandro Botticelli's masterpiece, one of the most reproduced paintings of the Italian Renaissance.
- Primavera: Another Botticelli icon, packed with mythological figures and allegory, hung nearby the Birth of Venus.
- Renaissance Masters: Works by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Titian across galleries overlooking the Arno and Piazza della Signoria.
- The Vasari Corridor Views: Long palazzo galleries with sweeping views over central Florence, connecting the Uffizi to the Palazzo Vecchio.
About the Uffizi
Originally built in 1560 as offices ('uffizi') for the Florentine magistrates under Cosimo I de' Medici, the building was converted into a gallery for the Medici family's art collection and opened to the public in 1765 — making it one of the oldest museums in the world.
Because the Uffizi is one of Florence's most in-demand museums, timed-entry tickets regularly sell out days in advance in high season. Booking ahead — ideally paired with your Duomo visit given the short walk between the two — is the easiest way to guarantee entry.
